Scissors sit in a closed captive channel cut into the insert, so the blades never touch the comb or the board. Loose blades in an open cavity cut the insert and score the wooden comb on the first drop.

The channel is cut into EVA foam rather than paperboard on most kits, because foam follows the blade geometry and grips the handles. Die-cut board works for the simpler three-piece layouts.

Glass against metal is the classic breakage pairing in a dropped box, so the insert wall keeps them apart. Each of the five items has its own cavity with foam or board between neighbours rather than open cavities side by side.

The oil bottle is also the heaviest single item, so it sits low in the layout where it can't swing against anything on impact.

Rigid 2mm greyboard for the gift tier, and 24pt SBS folding board for value kits. The rigid box holds a heavy mixed-content kit without flexing and is the version buyers expect at Father's Day and Christmas.

The 24pt folding carton ships flat and is erected at fill, which saves on freight and storage. It is the heaviest folding option we run and still takes a foam insert.

Deep matte black lamination with copper or gunmetal foil is the category signature. Darker metallics instead of gold are what separate this from beauty gifting, and matte holds up better than gloss on a large lid that gets handled.

Deboss into uncoated kraft reads as stamped leather or branded timber, which fits the barbershop register. Spot UV over matte works on a crest or monogram, and a wood-grain wrap paper is a common themed alternative.

A five-piece kit usually needs about 9 x 7 x 3 inches, and a three-piece compact kit fits in roughly 8 x 6 x 2.5 inches. Both are internal measurements and the depth is set by the tallest item, normally the oil bottle or the brush.

The minimum run is 500 boxes, insert included. Foam inserts are die-cut on a tool made for your exact components, and that tooling is what the minimum is protecting.

Above 1,000 the unit price tiers down. Because demand peaks at Q4 and Father's Day, most brands order once for each peak rather than stocking all year.

Production takes 7 to 10 business days once the insert layout and artwork are approved, so order at least a month before you need to fill kits. Rush production runs 5 to 7 business days, and a physical sample with your components seated in it takes 5 to 7 business days.

We credit the sample fee against the bulk run. The sample is where the scissor channel and bottle fit get confirmed, so don't skip it on a first order.

Uncoated kraft suits the workshop and barber aesthetic and is the easiest option to recycle. The natural brown board with visible fibre takes a deboss well and needs no lamination.

The trade-off is print. Colour on kraft comes out muted, so brands that want a deep black lid usually go for wrapped greyboard instead. If you want kraft with an EVA foam insert, the foam has to come out before the box goes in paper recycling.
