Oil residue on the bottle will mark uncoated board, so we line the interior with a barrier board. Without it, a translucent patch spreads out from wherever the glass touches the carton.

The barrier lining matters most on kraft and uncoated stocks, which soak oil up faster than laminated board. Your printed outside stays clean even if a bottle has a little residue around the neck.

Pick uncoated kraft for a workshop look, black-core board for a matte black range, and recycled grades for natural positioning. Black-core keeps the cut edges dark, so a black box doesn't show a white line at every fold and flap.

Whichever board you choose, a closed carton keeps residual light off the bottle, which amber glass only partly blocks on its own.
