Square bins sit tight against walls and other fixtures, while hexagonal and octagonal bins stand alone in open floor and can be shopped from every side. The extra corners on an octagon also stiffen the walls, so they bow less under a heavy load of loose product. Square bins are simpler to fold and use less board.

Pick the shape by where the bin will stand. Beside an endcap a square looks tidy, and in a lobby or a main aisle an octagon looks more deliberate.

Double-wall board, folded top rims and internal corner posts keep the walls straight once the bin is full. Loose product presses outward on the walls as well as down on the base, so the top edge is where a weak bin spreads first.
