Because the clip locks the pump for transit, and the clip is what prevents the leak. Silicone serum wicks into printed board and the stain cannot be recovered, so the carton has to close over the clipped pump. Measure without it and the clip comes off at the packing line to make the box shut.

Fifty to a hundred millilitres in a pump bottle behaves like a lotion carton, and a heavier fill in a tall carton puts the whole load on one tucked flap. Board moves from 18pt to 20pt at the same point, since the height needs the stiffness.

A coated SBS board keeps the print surface clean on an oil-rich shelf, but it will not stop silicone once it is inside the carton. The clip does that job. Black-core board suits salon-professional ranges because the cut edges stay dark, and metallised board is used in shine ranges where the claim is literally about light.

PCW recycled board suits refill and sustainability-led ranges.

Gloss for pharmacy and mass fixtures, matte for salon-professional. Gloss lamination is the hair care default because matte goes flat and dull under harsh retail lighting. Matte is the deliberate counter-signal, quieter than the fixture around it, and reads as salon. Hot foil on the heat-protection figure works because it's what customers scan for.

Spot UV on a hair-strand graphic suggests shine. Soft-touch is possible but rarer here than in skincare.

Around 1.7 by 1.7 by 5.5 inches for 100ml, and about 1.4 by 1.4 by 4.5 inches for a 50ml bottle. Both assume the pump is clipped, since that is how it ships. Pump heights vary a lot between suppliers, so a nominal size from a chart is rarely right.

By widening the base above five inches tall and moving to 20pt board with an auto-bottom at 100ml and up. A tall narrow carton on 18pt bows under a full bottle in a warehouse stack, and it falls over on a shelf. The bottle itself acts as a column once the carton fits snugly.

For parcel shipping the cartons go in a fitted case rather than loose, so the load sits on the case walls.
