Heart Shaped Boxes.

It's a rigid box with curved walls formed around a heart-shaped base, then wrapped in printed or coloured paper. There's no repeatable panel as there is on a rectangle, so every wall follows its own curve. The lid is built the same way and has to register exactly with the base.

Most of the work is done by hand, which is why the format costs more than a rectangular rigid box of similar size.

The notch at the top of the heart and the curve of the two lobes are where a poor wrap shows first. The paper has to be relieved with small cuts so it lies flat without puckering, and any bunching is obvious on a gloss red box. Lid registration is the other giveaway, because an off-centre heart looks wrong at a glance.

Ask for a sample and look closely at those spots before approving the run.

The outline tapers to a point, so the tray loses usable space at the bottom and around the notch. A fitted tray cut to follow the same outline holds fewer pieces than a rectangle of the same width and length. The awkward areas near the point usually end up as filler or decoration.

Red gloss wrap with a foil script on the lid is the classic Valentine build. Hot foil, embossing, soft-touch lamination and spot UV are all available, along with a ribbon or bow. Inside, the choice runs from satin lining or ruffles for a traditional look to a plain fitted tray for a modern one.

Holographic film and window lids aren't offered on this style, so plan the design around foil and wrap colour.

Order in the summer or early fall, because one February date carries most of the year's demand and every supplier is busy in the run-up. Production itself takes 7 to 10 business days from approval, with rush at 5 to 7. A sample needs 5 to 7 business days on top of that.

Our common sizes are 8 × 7.5 × 2 in and 10 × 9 × 2.5 in, measured across the heart at its widest and tallest points, then the depth. Work from the tray layout outward, since the taper eats into capacity. A single piece of jewellery needs far less room than a full assortment.

We make custom sizes too, using the same curved-wall construction.

Yes, the shape works for any gift where the outline carries the message, including jewellery, proposal pieces and keepsakes. For smaller items we fit a board insert with a single cavity in place of a multi-piece tray. The outer construction stays the same.

A minimal, non-seasonal design in a neutral wrap extends the box's use well past February.

The smallest heart box order we take is 500 units per size and design. Because the build is hand-wrapped rigid, quantity doesn't lower the labour per box as sharply as it does on folding cartons. We can still run up to 100,000 for a large seasonal programme.

If you sell two sizes, keep the same wrap and foil so both runs share the artwork setup.
