Custom Light Box.

A small switch in the lid, either magnetic or a spring plunger, closes the circuit as soon as the lid lifts. The LED module lights the interior and turns off again when the lid goes back down. The switch has to be placed so the box doesn't flicker on in transit when the lid shifts slightly.

Battery packs are standard for gift builds, and mains power can be designed in for a retail display unit.

Under the product platform, behind a printed panel or as a focused spot, depending on what you want lit. Under-platform lighting gives the jewellery-counter glow, and a backlit panel lights up printed graphics. In every case a diffusion layer spreads the light evenly, because bare LEDs show hot spots that look cheap.

Cable runs, the switch and the battery are planned before the artwork, since they decide where the insert can go.

Warm white is our standard, because it flatters most products and reads well on camera. Cool white can look clinical, and coloured LEDs are possible when the brand calls for them. The diffusion panel softens whichever you choose.

If the box will be filmed for an unboxing, we'd stay with warm white and test a sample under normal room light.

Backlit graphics are printed on translucent panel stock so light passes through and the artwork glows. Ink density matters more here, since a heavy solid blocks light and a thin tint washes out. We proof a lit sample so you see the real result.

The outer host box takes the usual finishes: CMYK print, matte or gloss lamination, spot UV highlights and foil accents. Soft-touch on the exterior gives a good contrast with the glowing interior.

Common sizes are 10 x 8 x 4 inches and 12 x 10 x 5 inches, and any size can be quoted. The outer is measured as length by width by depth. We add depth under the platform for the LED module, the battery and the switch, so the space for the product is a little smaller than the outside suggests.

Tiered and divided shelf layouts are available for retail display versions.

The minimum is 500 illuminated units. Each one carries its own electronics, so the quote covers the box, LED module, switch and battery together. Bigger launches and VIP programmes are quoted on the same build.

Plan for 7 to 10 business days of production after approval, or 5 to 7 on a rush schedule. A working sample takes 5 to 7 business days and is the only reliable way to judge the glow and whether the lid switch trips every time.

If the sample passes and you go to bulk, its fee is credited against the order.

Yes, with isolator tabs fitted so the battery stays disconnected until the customer pulls the tab. The tab also stops the circuit draining if the switch gets knocked in transit. Lithium cells fall under carrier rules, so confirm the requirements with your courier before booking a large send-out.

We design the LED unit to lift out, so the box can be kept and the electronics disposed of separately.
