Magnetic Closure Rigid Boxes.

We use 10 to 15mm neodymium discs and size the pull force to the weight of the lid. A heavy 3mm lid on an undersized magnet gapes at the corner, while a light lid on an oversized pair slams shut. The discs in the flap and the body are matched in polarity so the lid finds its seat by itself.

Usually the magnets have been set too far back from the flap edge. The flap then pivots over the magnet and the unsupported corner springs up. We place the discs close to the edge so the whole front of the flap pulls down flat.

That edge is also the first place a hand goes, so we keep the wrap there flush and tight. A loose or bubbled turn-in along the flap is the quickest way a magnetic box gives itself away.

Yes, the collapsible build ships flat and squares up in one motion when it's opened out. Crease systems in the greyboard let the walls fold down, and the same magnets that hold the lid shut lock the walls upright once the box is standing. A fixed rigid box travels at full assembled volume, so going flat cuts freight by a large multiple.

For long runs heading to a fulfilment centre, that saving often settles the choice of build.

Soft-touch lamination with a hot foil mark on the lid is the pairing most of our customers pick. The wrap is 128 to 157gsm litho paper, printed CMYK or with PMS spot colours, then laminated and foiled before it goes over the board. Deboss and spot UV are there if you'd rather keep the lid quiet.

Printing the inside is worth a look, since that surface is what the snap reveals. Ribbon pull tabs help on lids that fit tightly.

We quote 8 × 6 × 3 in and 10 × 8 × 4 in most often, but every box is built to your own dimensions. Sizes are taken from the inside, length by width by depth, because the product and any insert have to fit the cavity. The board and wrap then add to the outside measurement.

Our minimum on this box is 30 units. A floor that low lets a small brand or a launch kit have proper rigid boxes with magnets and a printed wrap without committing to thousands. The unit price comes down as the quantity rises.

Runs can go as high as 100,000 if the programme grows, on the same dieline and magnet spec.

Production runs 7 to 10 business days from artwork approval, or 5 to 7 on rush. A physical sample takes 5 to 7 business days, and we'd recommend one on this format because the closing snap is something you have to feel in the hand before signing off. The sample fee comes off the production invoice when you go ahead.

Inside a shipping carton, a correctly specified magnet pair holds the lid shut through normal parcel handling. The discs sit in the greyboard under the wrap, so they're covered and don't take knocks directly. For heavier contents we add more magnets along the flap instead of fitting one bigger disc.

We would still send the box inside an outer mailer. The wrap on a rigid box is a presentation surface and scuffs if it travels bare.
