Rigid Two-Piece Boxes.

A full telescope lid comes all the way down to the table and covers the base completely. The walls end up doubled, lid board over base board, which makes it the strongest version of the two-piece box. It also hides the base entirely, so the closed box reads as a single block.

A shallower lid uses less board and leaves a band of the base on show for a two-tone design.

There's no hardware in it, so there's nothing to wear out. Hinges fatigue at the fold over years of opening, but a base and a lift-off lid have no mechanism at all. That's why these are the boxes people keep in wardrobes and on shelves for decades.

They also stack better than any other rigid format, flat lid on flat base, which helps on a retail shelf and in storage afterward.

We leave roughly 1.5mm of clearance on each side, and the air caught in that gap slows the lid as it closes. It lands softly and doesn't clack. Holding that figure across a whole run depends on cutting base and lid from the same board and wrapping them to the same allowance.

We use 2mm greyboard as standard, or 1.5mm for lighter builds where cost comes first.

A two-tone build, with the lid and base wrapped in different colours, is the signature finish for this format. Foil on the lid is the usual way to carry a logo, with emboss or soft-touch for a tactile surface, and all wraps are printed CMYK or PMS.

Quality shows in the wrap, so we'd also ask for a lined lid and clean mitred corners. A lid lining is the first thing cheaper builds leave out.

8 × 8 × 3 in and 10 × 8 × 4 in are two of the sizes customers ask for most, but we build to whatever the contents need. Measure the product or its insert tray at the longest, widest and tallest points and send those as inside dimensions. We then size the lid over the base with the clearance allowed.

If you want a shallow lid, tell us the band height too so the lid depth can be set from it.

We'll make as few as 30 two-piece boxes. Small runs work well for wedding favours, corporate gift sets and first launches, where a few dozen boxes is all anyone needs. Price per box drops as the quantity climbs toward the 100,000 ceiling.

Reorders run on the same dieline and wrap spec, so a second batch matches the first.

Yes, provided the wrap isn't laminated, because a two-piece box is only board, paper and glue. With no magnets or metal parts to remove, it's among the easiest rigid boxes to recycle, and recycled chipboard can be specified for the core.

Soft-touch and gloss laminates add a film layer. If curbside recycling matters to your customers, we'd look at an uncoated specialty paper for the wrap instead.
