Wire-o lets the calendar hang flat against the wall and turn cleanly twelve times without the spine failing. A stapled or glued spine either bows away from the wall or cracks by the spring. The wire loop can double as the hanger, or we punch a reinforced hole above the binding, since an unreinforced hole tears out by March on a heavier calendar.

Yes, always, because people write on the grid and gloss will not take a pen. The usual build puts matt lamination or a gloss coat on the image pages, then leaves the grid pages uncoated so appointments can be pencilled in. Our 170gsm silk carries the photography on a wall format and 250gsm board is used on desk and tent calendars that have to stand unaided.

Through a separate date verification proof that covers only the grid, apart from the normal artwork proofread. Grids get skimmed, and a single wrong date scraps the whole run. We check the start day of every month independently, plus the first and last day of the year, and holidays against a current source rather than last year's file.

Matt lamination on the image pages with the grid left plain is the combination we use most. Gloss image pages suit a display-led photographic calendar. Spot UV on the cover is the usual premium touch. The hanging mechanism is part of the finish spec too, and we ask how it will be hung before choosing between a wire loop, punched hole or hanger.

A3 wall calendars measure 11.69 × 16.54 inches per page, and the standard desk format is 8 × 6 inches. Wall sizes are quoted as the single page, so a hanging calendar with the image above and the grid below is twice that when open. Desk and tent versions are measured as the visible face when standing.

Corporate gifting orders usually land between that and a few thousand, with tiered pricing kicking in above 1,000 and capacity up to 100,000 for retail or membership programmes. Every unit in the run gets the same date verification, so a short run is no less checked than a long one.

In the autumn, because a calendar that lands in late January has lost most of its value. Production takes 7 to 10 business days from an approved proof, and 5 to 7 business days on the rush schedule. We can make a bound sample in 5 to 7 business days so you can check the hanging and the page turn before the run, and we take its fee off the run.

Recycled silk and uncoated stocks both take the grid and image pages, and a wire-o binding can be removed at the end of the year so the paper goes in with ordinary recycling. Leaving the image pages unlaminated keeps the whole calendar in the paper stream.
