A folded gusset at the bottom opens into a flat base when the pouch is filled. Empty, it lies flat for shipping and storage, and once filled the base spreads so the pouch stands facing the shopper.

Gusset width decides stability. A tall, narrow pouch with a shallow gusset tips easily, so we match the gusset to the fill weight and the pouch height.

A part-used pouch is less stable than a full one, so we build a wider gusset for products that sit on a shelf between uses. Shops hold part-sold stock, and customers reclose the pouch many times at home.

We'd test samples partly emptied rather than full, because that's the state in which pouches actually tip. A wider gusset uses slightly more film but keeps the front panel facing forward.

Yes, the child-resistant layer works the same way, with a certified zipper sealed into certified film along the top. It opens with a press-and-slide action, and a tear notch above it handles the first opening.

What changes is the body shape, not the closure. The certification still depends on the zipper and film pairing, so the gusset adds shelf presence without affecting the rating.

The whole front panel works as a branding surface, and the back and gusset take print too. We print CMYK full wrap and finish in matte, gloss or metallic foil, or use a kraft paper outer for a natural look.

We map compliance zones onto the back panel first, so the front stays clear for the brand. Matte film is the common pick in dispensaries because it cuts glare under store lighting.

We measure width by height by gusset depth, with common sizes at 4 × 6 × 2 in and 6 × 9 × 3 in. The gusset figure is the depth of the base when the pouch is open and standing.

The body is a multi-layer barrier laminate, with a BPA-free, food-safe PE layer on the inside. BOPP or a kraft paper outer takes the print, and a metallised layer adds opacity where state rules call for it.

We heat seal the bottom and sides. This pouch doesn't take a one-way degassing valve, so it isn't the format for anything that gives off gas after packing.
