Flour Packaging Bags.

Flour is fine enough to sift through a single paper wall and its seams, so flour bags use two to four kraft plies. Each ply catches what gets past the one before it, and the pinched base is built to be sift-proof.

The inner ply also takes the abrasion. Flour rubs against the inside of the bag every time it is moved, and on a single cheap wall that wear eventually opens a pinhole.

Ply count follows the flour and the handling, not preference. A small retail bag is fine on two plies. A bulk sack that gets stacked, moved and handled more than once wants three, and four where it is travelling further or being handled repeatedly.

Paper weight runs 70 to 200 GSM per ply, and most food bags sit between 80 and 100. Going heavier on a single ply is not a substitute for a second wall, because the failure you are guarding against is fines finding a seam rather than the paper tearing.

Four, and the choice changes the whole bag. A valve top has a self-sealing sleeve in one corner that the weight of the flour holds shut. A heat seal closes the top across its full width. A folded and glued top is the traditional retail close, usually over a liner. A sewn open mouth stitches the top, often with a tape over the stitch line to keep fines in.

The base is a separate decision. A pinch bottom is folded and glued into a sift-proof seam, and that seam is where cheap sacks fail first.

A valve sack has a small sleeve built into one top corner, and it closes itself. Once the bag is full, the pressure of the flour pressing outward holds that sleeve shut, so no separate sewing or gluing step is needed to close the bag.

It suits bulk sacks that stay sealed from the mill to the end user. For retail bags the folded and glued top is still the better answer, because it looks like what a shopper expects flour to come in.

A PE-lined build makes sense in humid markets, where outside moisture would otherwise cake the contents. The catch is balance, because a bag sealed too tightly can trap moisture and sweat on the inside.

We match the barrier to where the bag will be stored and sold. For dry climates and quick turnover, plain multiwall kraft breathes well enough, and the lined build is for longer shelf life or damp warehouses. A free film carried loose between plies is the middle option, blocking moisture without bonding the walls together.

Plain multiwall kraft resists moisture, it does not block it, and anyone selling a paper sack as fully waterproof is overselling. The real barrier comes from a PE liner or a free film between plies, and that is a specification choice rather than a property of the paper.

The balance matters more than the number. A bag sealed tight enough to keep humidity out will also hold in whatever moisture the flour carried in with it, and that sweats. We match the barrier to the climate and the shelf life you need, which is usually less barrier than people first ask for.

Heritage mill print is still the benchmark, with gingham borders and a recipe on the back panel. Shoppers have picked flour on trust and habit for generations, and that familiar look helps a new brand sit comfortably beside the old ones.

Craft mills tend to go the other way, with kraft plies and a simple label or one-colour mark. Either way the back panel has room for the required marks, allergen block included. Flexo is the multiwall standard, with offset for photographic artwork and digital for short runs.

Flour bags start at 5,000 units, higher than our single-wall bags, because a multiwall build is several bags made and joined as one. Each ply is formed, the barrier is placed, and the base is folded and glued, so there is far more setup behind the first finished bag.

Once artwork is signed off, flour bags are produced in 7 to 10 business days. If a launch date is tight, a rush slot brings that to 5 to 7.

Sample bags arrive in 5 to 7 business days, and we would recommend filling one with your own product before approving bulk. The sample fee counts toward the production order, and freight goes anywhere in the country.

An all-kraft multiwall bag goes in with paper recycling, and every ply can be certified for food contact. Adding a PE liner makes recycling harder in some areas, so we only specify it where the barrier is actually needed.

For the paper plies we can quote recycled stock. If you print a recycling mark on the bag, we will confirm which build it applies to before the plates are made.
