Grocery Paper Bags
Sized in barrel fractions and specified in basis pounds, so this is infrastructure rather than packaging.
The 1/6 barrel is the checkout standard. Base and gusset carry the load, and the bag has to snap open fast enough for a bagger working through a queue.

Every detail. Intentional.
Barrel-fraction sizing
1/6 and 1/8 are the checkout units.
57–70lb kraft
Basis weight, not caliper.
The pasted base carries it
Cans, glass and a gallon of milk.
Snaps open at speed
A bagger opens hundreds an hour.
Handles need reinforcement
On an overloaded bag a handle is a lever.
Compliance print blocks
Recycled content and marks by jurisdiction.

Built like architecture.
Every order of Grocery Paper Bags is an engineered build, measured, dieline-cut and hand-wrapped to spec. Below is the standard build sheet.

Sizing & dieline.
Every Grocery Paper Bags is made to your fill, not pulled off a shelf. A pouch is quoted width × length. Tell us what goes inside and how much of it, and we return a measured spec, free, before you commit to anything.
A pouch is sized by what goes in it, not by outside dimensions. Give us the fill weight and, if you can, the bulk, since 500 g of granola needs far more bag than 500 g of powder.
We quote width × length. Flat pouches need no gusset figure, because the bag lies flat when empty.
Zipper or heat seal only, valve or no valve, window or full barrier. These change the film and the bag height, so they belong in the spec rather than added afterwards.
✦ Not sure of your size? Send us the product and we measure it and build the dieline.
Pricing & minimums.
We price Grocery Paper Bags per specification rather than from a fixed list, because the same build in two different finishes can land at very different numbers. Below is what actually moves the price, so you can shape the spec before you request a quote.
The single biggest lever. Unit cost falls sharply as volume rises, because setup and tooling spread across more pieces.
Board weight and stock choice change both the raw material cost and the shipping weight of the finished run.
Foil, spot UV, embossing and soft-touch each add a pass on press. One or two lift the box; five compound the cost.
Full-bleed print inside and out costs more than a one-sided design on natural stock.
Foam, moulded pulp, velvet pillows, magnets and ribbon are priced per piece on top of the box itself.
Standard production is the base rate. Rush moves you up the production queue and carries a surcharge.

Questions, answered.
Everything you need to know about Grocery Paper Bags.
Grocery bags are sized in fractions of a barrel, and the 1/6 barrel is the standard checkout sack at 12 × 7 × 17 in. The smaller 1/8 barrel measures 10 × 6.25 × 14 in and suits lighter baskets or smaller stores.
The trade still orders by these fractions, so quoting 1/6 or 1/8 tells us exactly which bag you mean. Custom sizes are available if your baggers need something in between.
57lb kraft handles an ordinary mixed load, and 70lb is the heavy-duty tier for stores that bag glass, cans and milk together. Grocery paper is specified in basis pounds, a measure of the sheet's weight, rather than by thickness.
We use high-virgin kraft for tear resistance, blended with recycled content where local rules require it. If your bags go out full of chilled items, a wet-strength option helps the paper resist condensation.
The pasted square base is the load floor, and it's what carries a gallon of milk and a few cans without splitting. The gussets let the bag open to its full square capacity, then fold flat again for the rack.
Most grocery bag failures start at a weak base seam, or a side seam that lets go under a sharp corner. A well-pasted base spreads the weight across the whole floor instead of the seam line.
Yes, but only with a reinforced wall where the handle is fixed. On an overloaded sack a handle acts as a lever and tears out through plain kraft.
We build handled variants with a reinforcing patch inside the top, using flat or twisted paper handles. Many stores keep both, with unhandled 1/6 sacks for full carts and handled bags for walk-in shoppers.
Flexo prints large billboard-style graphics across the face, and a one-colour chain mark is the high-volume standard. The sack is carried out through the parking lot and often reused at home, so it keeps working as advertising.
Many jurisdictions also require a compliance block showing recycled content and certain marks. We plan that into the layout so it sits cleanly beside your brand, and unprinted utility bags are an option if you need neither.
They're built to snap open with one flick, because a bagger in a busy lane opens hundreds an hour. The bags stack flat in the rack so the next one peels off cleanly.
A bag that sticks or tears at the opening slows the whole queue. Snap-open construction is part of our standard grocery build, and we check it on the sample before a store commits.
You can order printed grocery sacks from 500. That lets an independent market try a printed bag before committing to a full year's supply.
Supermarket programs run up to 100,000 per order. Our team sets up the artwork and compliance block on the dieline without charge.
We need 7 to 10 business days to produce a grocery bag order once the proof is approved. Rush jobs are turned in 5 to 7 business days.
For a store switching from plastic ahead of a ban date, we'd order a sample first. It takes 5 to 7 business days to arrive, and what you pay for it is deducted from the main order. Delivery covers the whole USA.
