Oil Filter Boxes.

Filters often carry a little residual oil, and on bare board that oil can wet right through the carton instead of only marking it. A grease-resistant liner holds the oil inside, so the box keeps its strength and the printed part number stays readable.

Kraft board helps as well, because natural brown hides small oil marks far better than a white surface does.

We either size the box tightly to the canister or add a corner insert that fills the four empty corners around the cylinder. A heavy metal filter sliding in a loose box can damage its own seal face, and it rattles every time the box is handled.

A reinforced base carries the weight, since filters are heavy for how small a footprint they have. Where a gasket is supplied separately, we can add a small bay to hold it.

We start from the filter's diameter and height, then set the box's inside width and depth just over the diameter and match the height. A 4 by 4 by 5 inch box and a 5 by 5 by 6 inch box cover a lot of spin-on filters.

Trade boxes are usually one or two colour flexo on kraft, which keeps cost down on high volumes. Consumer aftermarket ranges move to full CMYK for photographic print on a white board.

On either, the part number is the most useful thing on the box, printed oversized in high contrast on several faces so it reads however the carton is stacked. We also lay out an application panel for your vehicle fitment list and a barcode zone placed to scan at speed.

Yes, E-flute corrugated with a reinforced base gives the compression strength to stack filters several deep without the lower boxes collapsing. That strength lasts through the carton's time on the rack, because the grease-resistant liner stops oil softening the board from inside.

We'd keep the part number on the end panel as well as the front, since in deep racking the end is often the only face anyone sees.

The lowest quantity we'll run is 500 boxes. Above 1,000 you move onto tiered pricing, and runs go up to 100,000 for high-volume filter lines.

Distributors with a long list of part numbers often order the fast-moving sizes first and add slower sellers to a later run, which keeps stock of each box in line with demand.

The sample charge is later credited against production, so the fit check doesn't add to the cost of the order.

We'd go with kraft for most trade filters, because it hides oil marks and handling scuffs that show up badly on white. White board makes sense for retail aftermarket boxes, where a photograph of the filter and bright brand colours need a clean ground.

Both can take the grease-resistant liner. Oil-soaked board may be turned away by some recyclers, and the liner helps keep the carton clean enough for ordinary cardboard recycling.
