Pinch Bottom Paper Bags
A pinched and glued base seals tighter than a folded one, which is why the coffee trade uses it.
No corner gaps and no dust sift, which suits fine dry goods above everything else. The coffee trade's valve and tin-tie both started here before spreading across dry goods.

Every detail. Intentional.
Pinched, not folded
No corner gaps for powder to find.
Owns fine dry goods
Coffee, flour, spice and powders.
Layers by barrier need
Kraft, PE-lined or foil laminate.
Valve and tin-tie natives
Both spread from coffee to everything.
Leans rather than stands
Which is what block-bottom costs more for.
Compostable liners now real
A plastic-free barrier route exists.
Built like architecture.
Every order of Pinch Bottom Paper Bags is an engineered build, measured, dieline-cut and hand-wrapped to spec. Below is the standard build sheet.

Sizing & dieline.
Every Pinch Bottom Paper Bags is made to your fill, not pulled off a shelf. A pouch is quoted width × length. Tell us what goes inside and how much of it, and we return a measured spec, free, before you commit to anything.
A pouch is sized by what goes in it, not by outside dimensions. Give us the fill weight and, if you can, the bulk, since 500 g of granola needs far more bag than 500 g of powder.
We quote width × length. Flat pouches need no gusset figure, because the bag lies flat when empty.
Zipper or heat seal only, valve or no valve, window or full barrier. These change the film and the bag height, so they belong in the spec rather than added afterwards.
✦ Not sure of your size? Send us the product and we measure it and build the dieline.
Pricing & minimums.
We price Pinch Bottom Paper Bags per specification rather than from a fixed list, because the same build in two different finishes can land at very different numbers. Below is what actually moves the price, so you can shape the spec before you request a quote.
The single biggest lever. Unit cost falls sharply as volume rises, because setup and tooling spread across more pieces.
Board weight and stock choice change both the raw material cost and the shipping weight of the finished run.
Foil, spot UV, embossing and soft-touch each add a pass on press. One or two lift the box; five compound the cost.
Full-bleed print inside and out costs more than a one-sided design on natural stock.
Foam, moulded pulp, velvet pillows, magnets and ribbon are priced per piece on top of the box itself.
Standard production is the base rate. Rush moves you up the production queue and carries a surcharge.

Questions, answered.
Everything you need to know about Pinch Bottom Paper Bags.
The base is pinched flat and glued straight across, so there are no folded corners for powder to escape through. A folded base leaves small gaps at the corners, and fine goods find them.
That tight seal is why coffee, flour, spice and powders all use this format. After filling, the top can be closed the same way or fitted with a tin-tie that lets the customer fold it shut again.
For freshly roasted coffee, yes. Beans give off carbon dioxide for days after roasting, and a one-way valve lets that gas out without letting air back in, so the bag doesn't swell.
We integrate the valve during bag making, on foil laminate or PE-lined builds. Plain single-ply kraft doesn't hold a barrier in the first place, so the valve only makes sense on the lined versions.
Plain kraft is enough for dry-stable goods, PE-lined kraft keeps out moisture, and foil laminate is the oxygen barrier coffee roasters use. The right tier depends on what's inside and how long it sits on the shelf.
Compostable liners are now a real option if you want a plastic-free barrier. They sit between plain kraft and foil in performance, so we'd match them to products with a shorter shelf life.
A pinch-bottom bag is cheaper to make and seals tighter, while a block-bottom bag has a flat square base that stands upright. The pinch bottom leans against the shelf or its neighbours instead of standing alone.
On a café counter, a row of leaning pinch-bottom bags looks fine. If each bag has to stand by itself on an open retail shelf, the block-bottom is worth the extra cost.
Flexo on natural kraft is the classic roastery look, and a full laminate print gives a retail brand tier with photographic colour. Matte barrier films are the modern alternative for a clean, contemporary shelf.
Small roasters often run a plain stamped bag with a printed label, which lets one bag serve several origins. Spot UV and foil stamping are available on laminated builds.
Pinch-bottom bags are sized by fill weight, with the 12oz coffee bag as the classic reference. Our common range runs from about 4 × 2 × 8 in to 6 × 3.5 × 12 in.
Bulk density changes the fit a lot, so ground coffee needs less height than whole beans at the same weight. If you mail us a filled bag from your current supplier, we can match it exactly.
Custom pinch-bottom bags have a 500-bag minimum. For most roasters that means one size, usually the 12oz, in one design.
Roasters with wider distribution can order up to 100,000 bags. We'll set up the dieline, valve placement and artwork for you free.
Your bags will be in production for 7 to 10 business days after proof approval. A rush order takes 5 to 7 business days instead.
We'd strongly suggest a sample if you're adding a valve or tin-tie, and those take 5 to 7 business days to make. The price of the sample is credited on the production invoice, and we deliver to all 50 states.
