For very fine powders where an open mouth is always going to spill, a 22 to 33 mm spout fitment is the alternative. It pours cleanly and caps tight, at the cost of a scoop no longer fitting through the opening.

Yes, the bag should be sized to include the scoop, or customers will dig for it with their fingers. A pack sized exactly to the fill weight leaves no room for a utensil and no room to get it back out once the powder settles.

We add scoop allowance on top of the seal headspace, then choose a flat bottom or quad seal base so the bag stands as the volume drops. A stand-up pouch with a rounded base tips over once it is half used and powder shifts to one side.

Matte lamination dominates sports nutrition and premium supplements, and a metallic reveal where the metallised layer shows through unprinted areas is the category convention. Gloss brings brighter colour for mass-market ranges. A kraft outer fits organic greens and plant protein.

Soft-touch is the premium tier on a tub-replacement pack that gets handled every day. The nutrition panel needs a flat, unbroken area of the back, so we lay the artwork out around it rather than squeezing it in at the end.

We quote width by height plus gusset depth, and 5 x 8 inches with a 3 inch gusset or 7 x 11 inches with a 3.5 inch gusset cover most retail fills. Powder density is the variable. Two products at the same weight can need bags a full size apart.

Fill the sample with your actual powder and run the zipper twenty times. If the track stays clear and the seal holds after a shake, the headspace is right. If not, we adjust the dimensions before the run rather than after it.

Moisture control comes first, because damp is what turns a free-flowing powder into a solid block in the bottom of the bag. The standard BOPP, metallised PET and LLDPE structure gives a good moisture barrier for most powders. Hygroscopic formulations and long shelf lives move to a full aluminium foil laminate.

A desiccant can go in alongside the film where the formulation needs it. Heavy-gauge film is worth it on larger fills, since the settled weight of powder sits on the base seal all day.
