Two Piece Candle Boxes
A base and a lid with no flaps, which is the oldest presentation format in the category.
A separate lid lifts straight off and shows the candle in place. Fit tolerance is the craft: too tight and it sticks, too loose and it slips in transit.

Every detail. Intentional.
Lid lifts, nothing folds
The classic reveal.

Sizing & dieline.
We cut Two Piece Candle Boxes to a dieline built around your product instead of pulling a stock size off the shelf. Send us the length, width and height of the item (or the item itself) and we return a measured dieline, free, before you commit to anything.
Length, width and height of the item itself, at its widest points. Measure the product, not the box you happen to use today.
Allow 2–4 mm on each axis for a snug fit, and more if you are adding foam, a pillow insert or tissue.
We quote as Length × Width × Height. Tell us whether you are working in millimetres or inches and we match it.
✦ Not sure of your size? Send us the product and we measure it and build the dieline.
Pricing & minimums.
We price Two Piece Candle Boxes per specification rather than from a fixed list, because the same build in two different finishes can land at very different numbers. Below is what actually moves the price, so you can shape the spec before you request a quote.
The single biggest lever. Unit cost falls sharply as volume rises, because setup and tooling spread across more pieces.
Board weight and stock choice change both the raw material cost and the shipping weight of the finished run.
Foil, spot UV, embossing and soft-touch each add a pass on press. One or two lift the box; five compound the cost.
Full-bleed print inside and out costs more than a one-sided design on natural stock.
Foam, moulded pulp, velvet pillows, magnets and ribbon are priced per piece on top of the box itself.
Standard production is the base rate. Rush moves you up the production queue and carries a surcharge.

Everything you need to know about Two Piece Candle Boxes.
A separate base and lid, with no flaps and nothing to fold, so the lid lifts straight off and the candle is sitting there. It's the oldest presentation format in the category and the default for gifting, since it can go into a gift bag without wrapping. We build it as folding board for accessible ranges or as rigid wrapped board for boutique lines.
The base is engineered like a jar carton, because it carries the weight of the glass.
About 1.5mm of clearance per side gives the slow lift that reads as quality. Tighter than that and the lid sticks, so the customer ends up shaking the base to free it. Looser and the lid slides off in a bag or in transit, and the box feels cheap.
Wrap paper thickness changes the fit on rigid builds, so we set the tolerance on a sample made with the final paper before the run.
Both work, and lid depth is purely a design choice. A full-depth telescope lid covers the base completely and the box reads as one solid block. A shallow lid leaves a band of the base showing, and printing that band in a contrasting colour gives a two-tone look.
Shoulder boxes take the band idea further with a fixed collar on the base. Shallow lids also use a little less board, which adds up over a long run.
Keep the base constant and change the lid. The lid is what's seen on the shelf and on the gift table, so a seasonal lid in foil or a new colourway over a standard base gives a holiday edition without reprinting the whole box. CMYK and PMS print, foil, embossing, spot UV and matte, gloss or soft-touch lamination are all available.
Print wraps both halves, so a continuous design can run from the lid down onto the base band.
A collar insert for a jar, or tissue or shred for a lighter candle, depending on how the box is sold. The collar holds the vessel centred so it doesn't slide when the lid comes off. Tissue folded over the top gives the open-box moment a gift buyer expects, and shred suits a hamper look.
For a filled glass jar we'd fit the collar every time, because tissue alone lets it move.
Our two usual formats measure 4 by 4 by 4.5 inches and 5 by 5 by 5.5 inches, taken inside the base with the lid in place. The base depth follows the height of the vessel, and the lid depth follows the look you want. Allow for the collar or tissue when you give us the candle size.
Post us a filled candle, lidded, and we'll size base and lid together, since the lid tolerance is set from the base's outside dimension.
Two-piece boxes begin at 500 sets, each set being one lid and one base. Orders can go as high as 100,000 sets. Since the base usually stays the same across a range, a new scent or season can be a lid-only reprint at a later date.
Holding plain bases in stock alongside several printed lids is how many candle makers keep a seasonal range affordable.
We turn two-piece boxes around in 7 to 10 business days from approval. Rush slots finish in 5 to 7 business days. Order a sample if the lid fit matters to you, and on this format it usually does. Samples are made in 5 to 7 business days.
Once you order production, the amount paid for the sample is credited back, and the finished sets ship to any US destination.
