Cosmetic Labels
Regulatory typesetting on a small surface, where design and compliance turn out to be the same task.
Ingredient type has a legal minimum height, reducible only below a stated surface area. On a small container that calculation decides the layout before any aesthetic decision is made.

Every detail. Intentional.
Type size is set by law
1/16 inch, with one narrow exception.
The 12 sq in threshold
Below it, smaller type becomes permissible.
MoCRA contact required
A US route for adverse event reports.
PAO where life exceeds 30 months
The open-jar symbol.
Films, not paper
Oils and creams attack paper facestock.
Extended-content for tiny packs
A peel-and-reseal booklet in the footprint.

Built like architecture.
Every order of Cosmetic Labels is an engineered build, measured, dieline-cut and hand-wrapped to spec. Below is the standard build sheet.

Every surface, hand-selected.
What this product is built from, and the surfaces it takes. Below the build sheet sits the full swatch library. Every option applies across our range, and a physical swatch set is available on request.

Sizing & dieline.
We cut Cosmetic Labels to a dieline built around your product instead of pulling a stock size off the shelf. Send us the length, width and height of the item (or the item itself) and we return a measured dieline, free, before you commit to anything.
Length, width and height of the item itself, at its widest points. Measure the product, not the box you happen to use today.
Allow 2–4 mm on each axis for a snug fit, and more if you are adding foam, a pillow insert or tissue.
We quote as Length × Width × Height. Tell us whether you are working in millimetres or inches and we match it.
✦ Not sure of your size? Send us the product and we measure it and build the dieline.
Pricing & minimums.
We price Cosmetic Labels per specification rather than from a fixed list, because the same build in two different finishes can land at very different numbers. Below is what actually moves the price, so you can shape the spec before you request a quote.
The single biggest lever. Unit cost falls sharply as volume rises, because setup and tooling spread across more pieces.
Board weight and stock choice change both the raw material cost and the shipping weight of the finished run.
Foil, spot UV, embossing and soft-touch each add a pass on press. One or two lift the box; five compound the cost.
Full-bleed print inside and out costs more than a one-sided design on natural stock.
Foam, moulded pulp, velvet pillows, magnets and ribbon are priced per piece on top of the box itself.
Standard production is the base rate. Rush moves you up the production queue and carries a surcharge.

Questions, answered.
Everything you need to know about Cosmetic Labels.
Oils, creams and moisture attack paper facestock, so we print cosmetic labels on BOPP and PP films. Film holds its print when a jar is handled with wet or oily fingers, and the edges do not wick up product and stain.
Paper still has a place on dry outer cartons and gift tags. On the container itself we would always go with film.
An extended-content label adds peel-and-reseal booklet layers inside the same footprint, and a shrink sleeve turns the whole container into print area. Both solve the problem of mandatory copy that will not fit on a single-layer label.
We place the mandatory copy first and design around it, because on a small container the minimum type height decides the layout before anything else.
We print on clear film so the label disappears against the glass and the graphics look printed straight onto the container. It has been the classic premium look in cosmetics for a long time.
Opaque colours need a white ink layer printed underneath, otherwise the product shows through them. Dark or tinted glass needs a heavier white to keep small text legible.
Cold foil, spot UV and soft-touch laminate all work at label scale. Cold foil takes CMYK printed over it, so metallic gradients and coloured foils are possible, which hot foil cannot do.
Spot UV on a matte ground is the usual small-format accent. For a prestige range, a metallised facestock gives a full metal surface without foiling every label.
Any size, since we cut every label to its own die, from small tube and lip balm labels to full wraps. Measure the flat area of the container where the label will sit, and keep clear of shoulders and curves that would cause wrinkles.
If the container tapers, send us one. A tapered jar needs a curved label shape, and we'll draw it from the real part.
Film labels with a laminate or waterproof coating handle steam and wet hands well. The adhesive has to match the container, since PE squeeze tubes, PET bottles and glass each hold a label differently.
We test the label on your actual container before the run. A mismatched adhesive is what usually makes cosmetic labels lift at the edges.
Yes, cosmetic labels start at 500 pieces. That quantity suits a first batch of jars or tubes, and it leaves enough to try the label on the filling bench before a larger reorder.
If you have several products in the same container, tell us, since they can often run on the same material and die.
Cosmetic labels are printed and finished within 7 to 10 business days of proof approval. A rush run takes 5 to 7 business days.
We'd suggest a sample first, which takes 5 to 7 business days, so you can apply labels to your real containers. The charge for the sample labels is taken off the production invoice.
