Grosgrain is the better choice when boxes are tied days before they arrive, because its ribbed weave holds a bow through handling. Satin has a glossier face and a fluid drape, but a satin bow relaxes and slumps in transit.

Double-face satin can be printed on either side, which keeps it the classic for gifts tied in store. Organza suits light, delicate presentations.

Repeat spacing is the distance between each logo along the length of the roll. It decides whether a tied bow shows a complete logo or a mark cut off at the knot.

Tell us how long a piece you cut per box and how you tie it. We'll set the spacing so a full mark lands where it is seen, usually on the tails or across the top of the lid.

Hot foil stamping is the luxury standard, putting a crisp metallic mark on the ribbon. Screen printing lays opaque colour on dark grounds where foil would look wrong, such as white on navy.

Sublimation handles photographic and multi-colour designs, mostly on polyester ribbon. The method follows the effect you want, so start with how the finished bow should look.

Dyed ribbon drifts slightly from one dye lot to the next, so a reorder can come back a shade off. We match every run to a physical colour standard that you approve and keep.

Ordering a full season's ribbon at once is the simplest way to keep every box on the shelf the same colour.

Common widths are 10mm, 15mm, 25mm and 38mm, supplied on rolls of 25 to 100m. Narrow ribbon suits hang tags and small boxes, and the wider widths give room for a readable logo on a bigger lid.

For a busy packing station, longer rolls mean fewer changes. Shorter rolls are handy for trying a new design in a few stores.

Recycled polyester ribbon is our sustainable option, and cotton tape is the natural alternative. Cotton and jute tapes also carry a craft look that sits well on kraft boxes and plain mailers.

Cut and sealed ends stop synthetic ribbon fraying, so the tails still look neat when the box is opened.

Printed ribbon starts at 500 per design and colour combination. Using one branded ribbon colour across the whole range usually works out better than several short runs in different shades.

It also makes colour control easier, since every box then draws from the same dye lot.

Custom ribbon is produced in 7 to 10 business days after artwork approval, or 5 to 7 on rush. Holiday programmes are where ribbon runs short, so book early if it is part of a seasonal gift box.

Allow 5 to 7 business days for a sample length, which shows how the print sits on the weave and how the bow holds. You get the sample fee back as credit on the production order.
