Registration between colours is soft on this substrate, and thin lines and small type simply disappear. A logo, a border or a short line of text in solid colour reproduces well. Gradients and photographic images do not, and we will say so at the artwork stage.

2-ply for ordinary table use, which is the most common spec. 1-ply is the cocktail napkin, where the job is catching condensation under a glass and looking tidy. 3-ply is noticeably more absorbent and feels more substantial, so it is the pick for messy food. Airlaid is the premium step above all three, denser and cloth-like for a formal table.

Yes, we print with low-migration food-safe inks as standard on every napkin. A napkin meets the mouth directly, so this is compliance rather than a preference, and it applies whether the print is a single spot colour or several. The ink choice does not limit the artwork any further than the tissue already does.

A pressed pattern that reads as quality in a way print on tissue cannot. It is the most overlooked finish in the range and it works on plain white with no ink at all. A blind embossed logo does the same job on a premium table. Where print is used, a single spot colour logo is what tissue reproduces best, with full colour kept to solid areas.

Cocktail at 5 × 5 inches, lunch at 6.5 × 6.5 inches and dinner at 8 × 8 inches, all measured folded. Quarter fold and eighth fold change where the print sits on the folded face, so artwork is positioned to the fold rather than to the flat sheet. Tell us the fold and we will place the logo where it shows on the table.

In fine dining, where an embossed plain white napkin is often the most elegant option on the table. Print on tissue always carries a little softness, and a formal setting can read that as cheap. An embossed border or a blind logo gives the identity without ink. We would go with airlaid and an emboss for a white-tablecloth venue and save the spot colour logo for the bar.
