Overview

Tin Cans

Metal where paper will not hold — a rigid container for contents that need it.

Seamed tinplate gives a genuinely airtight and light-proof container that survives being reopened for years. It is the heaviest option in this family and the most durable.

Crafted to specification

Every detail. Intentional.

Airtight and light-proof

More absolute than any paper structure.

Reopened for years

Which is why the format persists.

Printed or labelled

Direct litho on metal, or an applied wrap.

Emboss for tactile branding

Metal takes relief that board cannot hold.

Weight is the trade

Heavier to ship than a wound tube.

Kept and reused

Tins survive their contents by decades.

The Library

Every surface, hand-selected.

What this product is built from, and the surfaces it takes. Below the build sheet, the full swatch library — every option applies across our range, and a physical swatch set is available on request.

Material
Tinplate Steel
The standard body material — steel with a thin tin coating for corrosion resistance and printability.
Most common
Aluminium
Lighter than tinplate and naturally corrosion resistant. Chosen where shipping weight matters.
Lightweight builds
Interior Lacquer
Food-grade internal coating separating contents from the metal. Required for direct food contact.
Food & cosmetic
Rolled Steel Edge
Curled rim on body and lid so the finished can is safe to handle and seats correctly.
Safety standard
Sealing Gasket
Optional seal in screw-top and press-fit lids where an airtight close is needed.
Freshness-critical
Finish
Offset Litho on Metal
Full-colour artwork printed directly onto the sheet before forming. Highly scuff resistant.
Standard
Matte Varnish
Non-reflective protective coat over the print. Understated and hides fingerprints.
Premium read
Gloss Varnish
Reflective protective coat with stronger colour saturation.
High colour
Embossed Metal
Relief pressed into the metal itself — not into a wrap. Permanent and tactile.
Distinctive
Brushed / Metallic Effect
Leaves metal visible through the print for a metallic sheen no paper can imitate.
Metal-only effect
Spot Gloss
Selective gloss varnish over a matte base for contrast without added colour.
Subtle branding

How to measure
01
Measure the product

A cylinder needs two figures, not three: the diameter across its widest point, and the height. Measure the item itself, not the pack you happen to use today.

02
Add clearance

Allow 2–3 mm on the diameter so the product drops in without binding, and a few millimetres of headroom if a lid, pillow or tissue sits on top.

03
Give us the order

We quote round formats as Diameter × Height. Tell us whether you are working in millimetres or inches and we match it.

What It Costs

What moves the price
Quantity

The single biggest lever. Unit cost falls sharply as volume rises, because setup and tooling spread across more pieces.

Material and thickness

Board weight and stock choice change both the raw material cost and the shipping weight of the finished run.

Finishing

Foil, spot UV, embossing and soft-touch each add a pass on press. One or two lift the box; five compound the cost.

Print coverage

Full-bleed print inside and out costs more than a one-sided design on natural stock.

Inserts and hardware

Foam, moulded pulp, velvet pillows, magnets and ribbon are priced per piece on top of the box itself.

Timeline

Standard production is the base rate. Rush moves you up the production queue and carries a surcharge.

— Frequently Asked Questions —

Questions, answered.

Everything you need to know about Custom Tin Cans.

Tins communicate permanence and care — they're not throwaway packaging. For premium tea, coffee, and confectionery brands, the tin is part of the product experience. Customers keep quality tins for years, using them for storage, display, and gifting repurposing. This extended product life creates ongoing brand impressions that no single-use format achieves. Additionally, tins provide excellent protection against oxygen, moisture, and light — the preservation requirements of high-quality tea and coffee.
Slip-lid (friction-fit lid): standard for most tea, coffee, and confectionery tins — opens and closes easily for regular use. Hinged lid: typically used for gift tins and specialty confectionery where the lid stays attached during use. Threaded/screw-top: provides the most secure seal for products requiring airtight closure between uses. Press-and-pull lid: for child-resistant applications in cannabis and pharmaceutical categories. Match the closure to the product's use frequency and the access ease requirements of the customer.
Tin cans can be printed directly via lithographic (offset) printing directly on the metal sheet before the can is formed — this produces the highest-quality, most vibrant results. Alternatively, printed paper wraps or labels can be applied to a plain tin. Direct lithographic printing on tin produces results that are more durable, more premium in feel, and better suited to the archival quality that collectible tin packaging demands.
