Custom Double Wall Paper Cups.

For most cafés, yes — though the reason is operational rather than thermal.

Thermally they are broadly comparable. Both put an air gap and an extra layer of board between the drink and the hand.

Operationally the double wall wins clearly. It is one item instead of two: nothing extra to buy, store, count or reorder, and no couple-of-seconds sleeve fitting on every drink during a morning rush.

On print it wins too. A sleeve covers the middle third of the cup, which is exactly where most brands put their logo. A double wall gives you the entire outer wrap.

On cost it is closer than people assume. Per cup, double wall costs more than single wall — but the fair comparison is against single wall plus a sleeve, and that is often near level.

Sleeves still make sense if you already hold cup stock, or if you want a cheap way to run seasonal artwork without changing cups.

8 oz, 12 oz and 16 oz cover most hot drink menus and are what we quote most often. 4 oz is the espresso size, and 20 oz exists where the menu runs large.

The constraint worth raising early is lids. Cups are built to standard lid diameters, so if you already stock lids, tell us which ones before we set tooling — it is far cheaper to size the cup to your existing lids than to replace your lid stock.

Note that 8 oz and 12 oz often share a lid diameter while 16 oz needs a different one. That affects how many lid SKUs you carry behind the counter.

We would not recommend it, and the reason is the coating rather than the insulation.

A hot cup is lined with PE on the inside only — that is all a hot drink needs. A cold drink creates condensation on the outside of the cup, and on a hot-cup construction that outer ply is bare paperboard. It absorbs the moisture, softens, and the print can lift.

Cold cups are built with double-sided PE for exactly this reason: sealed inside against the drink and outside against its own condensation.

The insulation would technically help keep a cold drink cold. But the cup will go limp before that benefit matters, so it is the wrong construction.
