The customer buys a portion, so the box is specified by the volume it holds. A 46-ounce box and an 85-ounce box are the usual steps, and each has to look full when heaped at the counter because the visible size is the value the customer reads. A box that is technically the right volume but looks half empty loses the upsell.

The flared taper is part of that. A wider top than base makes the portion look larger and lets the empty blanks nest into a tight column.

The board carries a PFAS-free barrier rated for topped popcorn, since butter always collects at the base. A dry-rated barrier is enough for plain popcorn, but hot butter poured over the top runs down through the kernels and pools on the flat bottom. The barrier on this format is specified against that pooling.

The print uses grease-tolerant ink where the base takes the soak, so the artwork does not lift or blur in the customer's hand.

Yes, a self-erecting blank pops into shape with one squeeze at the counter. Concession pace at the start of a screening leaves no time for folding a tuck bottom, so the base is glued to spring open flat when the blank is opened. The boxes nest into a deep stack in the kiosk, which matters where storage is a shelf under the counter.

Standard flat-bottom blanks are available where the volume does not justify the glued base.

The red stripe still outsells most custom artwork on impulse, and the two can be combined. The pattern is recognised across a cinema foyer at a distance, which is the range the box has to work at. Full CMYK suits branded cinemas and event concessions, and kraft with a spot colour is the usual choice for gourmet ranges.

Short tie-in runs for a specific film release print without retooling, so a seasonal box does not commit you to a year of stock.

The 46-ounce box measures 3.75 by 3.75 by 7.75 inches and the 85-ounce box 4.25 by 4.25 by 8.5 inches. Those are the base footprint and the height, and the top flares wider. The two sizes have to look visibly different side by side or upselling from small to large stalls at the counter.

Large sharing sizes go onto a heavier caliper board because a full box gets carried by the rim and a light board buckles.

Custom popcorn boxes start from 500 units per order. Cinemas and venues usually order well past that, and the price steps down once the run clears 1,000. The largest single order we schedule is 100,000 boxes.

Both sizes can share one order and one artwork approval, with each size priced on its own blank.

A standard run takes 7 to 10 business days, and a rush run 5 to 7 business days. Tie-in boxes are usually planned around a release date, so send the artwork as soon as the studio approves it and the schedule holds. Repeat sizes with the die on file save a day or two.

Sample boxes come in 5 to 7 business days, and the sample cost is refunded against the bulk order.

Clay-coated and kraft boxes recycle with paper, and a PLA-lined version composts commercially. The PFAS-free barrier keeps the board within paper recycling, though a heavily buttered box is better composted where a venue has collection in place. The PLA lining takes the butter and breaks down alongside the board.
