Sandwich Paper Boxes.

The window sits over the cut face, because the filling is what sells the sandwich. Position matters more than size: a large window showing crust does less than a smaller one framed on the cut edge. Wedge boxes put the aperture on the sloping front, and rectangular boxes put it in the lid.

A shaped window cut to the outline of the cut face is a small extra on the die and reads well in a grab-and-go cabinet.

Anti-fog film spreads condensation into a clear sheet instead of droplets that hide the filling. A chilled box warms slightly every time the cabinet door opens, and the moisture inside settles on the coldest surface, which is the window. Standard film fogs over within the first hour on display.

The anti-fog treatment is a small cost against the number of sandwiches that go unsold because nobody could see them.

Venting is balanced to the sandwich, since too little fogs the window and too much dries the bread. A sealed unvented pack traps moisture and wets the bread, and a heavily vented one curls the edges within a few hours in a chilled cabinet. We set the vent pattern against what is inside and how long it sits on display.

There is no default setting for this. A hot panini and a chilled wedge get different dies.

Kraft with flexo print is the standard, and full CMYK suits a competitive chilled shelf. The ingredients, allergens and date usually go on an applied label so they can change between products without a new print run, and a date code zone is left as a defined printable area matched to your coder. The panel has room for the required marks.

Clay-coated board gives the cleaner print surface. Kraft carries the artisan food-to-go look.

Common sizes are 5 by 4 by 3 inches for a square and 7 by 4 by 3 inches for a wedge. The box is measured on the inside to the sandwich as cut, with the third figure being the height of the filled sandwich standing on its crust. A wedge holds a diagonal-cut sandwich upright so the cut face shows.

Level tops on both formats let the boxes stack in a display case.

Printed sandwich boxes are made from 500 units upward. The tiered pricing kicks in past 1,000, and a cafe with a daily sandwich counter usually settles into a monthly reorder at that level. One production order goes as high as 100,000.

Wedge and rectangular formats can be combined in one order, each priced on its own die.

Windowed boxes are produced in 7 to 10 business days, or 5 to 7 on rush. The window film is applied in-line after print, so it does not add to the schedule. A sample box with the window fitted takes 5 to 7 business days and is the right way to check fogging in your own cabinet.

The sample charge is credited when the production order is placed.

Yes, the clay-coated board is chosen for damp strength as well as print. A grab-and-go cabinet runs humid, and ordinary carton board softens and bows at the corners after a few hours in it. The stock we use keeps its shape through a day on display.

For buttery or oily fillings a greaseproof liner stops the board marking. The box recycles with paper once the film window is pulled out.
