Wax-coated sheet gives moisture and grease resistance at very low cost, with one real limit: heat melts the coating, so it is a cold and ambient material.

Wax melts well below oven temperature, transfers onto food and can smoke. Use parchment for anything hot — this is the most common mistake with this product.

Material and thickness

Board weight and stock choice change both the raw material cost and the shipping weight of the finished run.

Finishing

Foil, spot UV, embossing and soft-touch each add a pass on press. One or two lift the box; five compound the cost.

Print coverage

Full-bleed print inside and out costs more than a one-sided design on natural stock.

Inserts and hardware

Foam, moulded pulp, velvet pillows, magnets and ribbon are priced per piece on top of the box itself.

Everything you need to know about Custom Wax Paper.

No. This is the single most important thing to know about it.

Wax paper is coated in paraffin or soy wax, and wax melts far below oven temperature. In a hot oven it softens, transfers wax onto the food, and can smoke. Neither coating type changes this — soy wax is not a route to making wax paper oven safe.

The paper you want for the oven is parchment, which is coated with silicone and is typically rated to around 220°C.

The two look very similar, which is exactly how wax paper ends up in ovens. If your kitchen stocks both, it is worth labelling the boxes clearly and being explicit with new staff.

For hot fried food the same applies: parchment handles fryer-temperature contact, wax paper softens.
